Crime prevention in Alphen Park - The History
- Alphen Park Precinct Committee first formed in 1997 following the fatal shooting of resident Ian McAllister in Homestead Road.
- The committee was formally supported by 99% of residents
- In October/November 2001 the residents and APHA decided to close off the suburb illegally resulting in high visibility and extensive media coverage.
The fences were subsequently removed after objections from one resident and discussions with the council. - Closure finally agreed in principle in May 2002.
- Two objections heard in October 2002
- Formal closure approved
- CMS appointed to control access and manage the suburb closure
